HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS – News & Updates – Video Project

About two weeks ago we had our “End of Semester Shoot”.   This one was much like the shoot we did last year where the Sheriff’s Department asked us to do a video that featured the 5 Keys Creative Writing Class.   This time they asked us to feature the 5 Keys jail band, CONTRABAND.

Afer a couple of hours of set up, our student crew, led by our Hollywood Professional instructors began “filming” the band.   Wow, the band was amazing.  (Note:  We are not allowed to show pictures of the faces of the band unfortunately).

The video will be shown at the 5 Keys Art Show on June 10th at the Los Angeles Public Library, downtown LA.   Below is the closest thing we can show of the band in action!

It was a great shoot and “our guys” did an amazing job.  A special thanks to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for all their help in making it happen.

Last week we attended the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) convention in Las Vegas.   For those who may not be aware of NAB, it is a huge convention which takes over several of the largest convention halls in Las Vegas.  Broadcasters and vendors from all over the world attend.   The vendors show off their latest gear… cameras, monitors, lighting, editing systems, sound systems, all of it.

Some vendors will do just about anything to get people to walk over to their booth.  This young lady was dressed to get your attention, and that she did!

It was a good show, long day, long drive but worth it.

CHANDLER’S DAY OUT – 2015

In loving memory of our dear friend and HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS instructor & mentor,  Brandon Chandler, we try to have a “Chandler’s Day Out” every year. We take a bunch of our alumni and go out for a “field trip”. Last Saturday we went out to Fillmore for a day of photography at the train museum.  Below are just a sampling from our CHANDLER’S DAY OUT…

Semester #17 is off to a great start!    We are into week three and have (20) very enthusiastic students.    This first few weeks is more of an introduction and overview, although they have already begun their hands on training on the Avid Editing systems.  It’s a real variety of guys with varied backgrounds and ages.    We assigned the team editing project last week.  Take a word like, “sacrifice” or “faithful” (we gave them 10 words to pick from) and using stock footage, voice over and music, come up with a 3 minute video that best exemplifies that word.    We are all very excited to see how this semester plays out.

This has been a busy month at HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS.  This last Tuesday we had a very different Tuesday night Alumni Meeting…  We decided to hold a potluck to discuss and pray about all the blessings we have received during 2014 and prayed for guidance as we begin 2015.

It was a lot of fun and a ton of great food!   Thanks to everyone who attended and helped.

Earlier in the month we held our first HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS staff meeting to discuss our future of the studio “on the outside”.

HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS – News & Updates

This last Tuesday night we held our 5th Annual Angel Tree gift giving event.   We had a great turnout (27 HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS VOLUNTEERS).   As in every year, we met at In & Out Burgers in Stevenson Ranch for food and fellowship.

We then loaded up on the GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH bus, driven by our own Hal Lary and headed to the Sun Valley-Pacoima area. We delivered gifts to 15 children.

For those who may not be aware of Angel Tree, it is a ministry of Prison Fellowship where volunteers go out and buy Christmas gifts for incarcerated parents to give to their children.   Studies have shown that if you can keep the bond and relationship between an incarcerated parent and their child strong, you have an excellent chance of keeping that child from ending up in jail or prison.

It was a night of singing Christmas Carols to those families that we were visiting.   Many a tear was shared and of course the love of Christ as well.   We pray that through this program the bonds between the parents who are incarcerated and their children only grows stronger.

A special shout out to:

Grace Baptist Church for loaning us their bus

  • In & Burgers (on the Old Road) for their terrific food
  • La Quinta Inn & Resort (also on The Old Road) for helping us with parking
  • And of course Angel Tree for making this ministry program possible.
