FAMILY RESTORATION

DSC_4072

“I am so thankful to Hollywood Impact Studios.  I am a mother that prayed so long for my son.  It pains a mother to see her children lost, well my son Richard has been found and Hollywood Impact Studios has been an instrument in his life.  I live out of state and have not seen him since he got out, but he calls me almost every day.  He sounds so happy and excited about his newfound LIFE and working with all of you.  I so truly thank the Lord but I also thank your outreach program.  I  pray for this ministry these prisoners need your Ministry, it is one thing going into the jails and prison’s but it’s another thing being on the outside for them that’s the important part AMEN. MUCH LOVE MARTHA [LAST NAME OMITTED] a PRAYING MOM, GOD TRULY ANSWER’S PRAYER.”

Addiction and incarceration do not merely affect the person involved.  It affects the entire family and the community associated with that person.   Just as it took years to break down those bridges and family bonds, it sometimes takes years to rebuild them.   And that is where HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS comes in.

HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS is a faith-based ministry that started this “bridge building” in 2009, with our In-Jail Program, inside the Los Angeles County Jail.  It continued in 2011 with our Alumni-Reentry program on the outside and expanded in 2015 with our Miracle Mountain Vocational Training Center in Castaic, California

Our goal is simple, we want to help our men and women coming out of jail, prison, and recovery programs, which often includes veterans and the homeless, to transform their lives, helping them become substance-free, vocationally trained, and morally strong.  This will help them become productive citizens and in turn may restore those broken family relationships…and in the process reduce crime which makes this program even more important given the current prison reform programs.

The keyword to our program is mentoring.  We start with these men inside the Los Angeles County Jail.  Our volunteers teach vocational training, life skills training, and spiritual encouragement – we walk alongside and support them. What makes our program so unique is that we continue that walk with these individuals on the outside directly from prison, or upon completion of a recovery program.  Hollywood Impact Studios is that “NEXT STEP.” Why is this unique?  This holistic model integrates in-jail, out of jail and vocational/educational training together.  We do all three within a loving, supportive, and encouraging environment. Through what we call discipleship (walking with them and training them throughout life) healthy relationships are modeled and rebuilt.

We have seen over and over again how this approach works to rebuild those damaged family relationships; not overnight, but over time.

dsc_5533

We believe this model is why their recidivist is less than 20%.   And it works over the long haul; the very first semester of our In-Jail Program (2009) had (10) graduates. (8) of them are still out after 10 years!   But we can’t do this important work without volunteers and funding.

Will you please help support the  HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS vocationally training program, no amount is too small.  Please donate today!

Tony,s Family - Smaller

“My life has completed changed in the five years I have been out.   My entire family did not want to have anything to do with me, and I don’t blame them.  I spent 25 years in addiction and in Jail with three prison terms.   But now, I have a restored relationship with my father, my daughter, my grandchildren, and even my ex-wife.   Life is good.  Praise God!”

Interesting Perspective

Most all of the equipment we use in our program has been donated. Much it from 20th Century Fox and their former employees.

DSC_0756

None of it is new, all of it used; during this equipment’s life it has been used on some of the biggest movies and television series, but now it has blemishes on it…

DSC_0788

…rust on the light stands, missing pieces, small patches or stains on the lighting silks, but it all still works.

DSC_0766

As I watch us use this equipment I wonder which movie stars it lit in its past life. It makes me smile to see it being used again, for good and noble purposes, for helping to change lives and light the paths of new futures.

DSC_1004

As one of our instructors once pointed out, this equipment has been redeemed just like our students… just like all of us…

We are so thankful to have this equipment and put it back to work!

April 2014 News and Updates

DSC_0742

Earlier this March, HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS was honored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.  We were privileged to receive this certificate from Supervisor Mike Antonovich and the rest of the board.

DSC_0055

Cyndi was unable to attend, so our graduate and new instructor Charlie Roseland stood in for her.  Supervisor Antonovich made a joke after looking over and seeing Charles instead of Cyndi.

DSC_0060

Charles was able to also say a few words of thanks to Hollywood Impact Studios and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for helping him turn his life around.

February 2014 News & Updates

DSC_0434

Two weeks ago we had our final video shoot for the end of semester #14.  We decided to do something a little different – we interviewed Charles Roseland for a new web series called “CHOOSING A NEW PATH” which we plan to launch on Hollywood Impact TV.

We had a few new instructors that helped out on this shoot.  This is DP James Reid who is helping one of our students design a shot.   James was a huge help to our camera instructor John Ames, getting the cameras, lights and 12’X12′ silk set up and in place.

Instructor Stan took on the job of directing this shoot.  He did a terrific job.  Here we see our 1st AD Julie and Line Producer Jim working with the director to get camera angles decided.

The shoot went well, our students loved the day working as part of the production team. Now it’s on to post production. Our semester is over until we start again in March. Thanks to all that made semester #14 a success.

Choosing a New Path – Leaving the Bars Behind

post 1

This is a new segment for our blog about the alumni of HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS who are choosing a new path – one that leaves prison and jail behind. It is intended to be of help to our students who have recently left jail/prison or are about to, so they can see how the men before them have succeeded by choosing a new path. Below is our first installment from Bill, our former student turned mentor and friend of HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS.

=================

“I am an addict and alcoholic. Hard to admit, but the truth, For me that was step 1 to my total transformation. My bad habits landed me in jail and prison for a grand total of 15 years on the installment plan. I finally surrendered and started a relationship with a God of my choice, I sought and continue to seek His guidance. I walked away from my past associates, places where I hung out and everything else. I am coming up on 4 years clean and sober, it’s not always easy, but it’s never hard either. I can’t we can, meaning NA, AA and God. I am employed full time, I have been attending College for 4 semesters now and completed the Construction Management Program. I attend meetings, church and just keep my mind busy in a positive and productive way. I am doing it so can everyone of you. You can’t do it alone. Do something new, what have you got to loose?” ~Bill~

4th Annual Angel Tree Event

post2-1

Last week we had another terrific Angel Tree Gift giveaway event, our 4th.  For those who may not be aware of  the Angel Tree Program, it is part of Prison Fellowship.  Studies continue to show that if an incarcerated parent can keep and build a relationship with their children, the likelihood of their children becoming incarcerated drops dramatically.   Angel Tree helps to build that relationship by allowing inmates to sign up to get gifts for their children for Christmas.   Angel Tree volunteers go out, buy the gift for that parent, wrap it, put a label on it from that parent and deliver it to the child.

Again this year, our people from HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS participated.  Some were formerly incarcerated themselves, some were the family members of those incarcerated and others were our instructors and staff.

We met at In-N-Out Burger in Santa Clarita as we do every year for dinner and fellowship.  Once again, In-N-Out did a terrific job, serving us with that great attitude they always have. A big shout-out to them.
.

After dinner, we loaded into (8) cars and caravaned our way down to the Pacioma, Sun Valley area.   At each stop we sang Christmas Carols (a little off tune at times) and then gave the gifts to the children from their parent.

It was a great evening of joy and laughter all in a heart warming atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who helped. Everyone at HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS wishes you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2014!!

HIS December Update

post3-1

We’re back in the classroom after a brief break between semesters.   Semester #14 is underway with 30 new student/inmates meeting in our classroom #42.   This seems like a very enthusiastic group who are eager to learn.   We’ll be updating you as we move through the semester.   Welcome back and thank you to all of our volunteer instructors and of course Sherriff Lee Baca and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.

HIS – October Update

post6-1

A couple of weeks ago we produced our Semester 13 final video project. For some, you may remember that this semester we were teaching live story telling in our class. So this final video project was to “film” our students telling those stories in front of a live audience. It was a terrific show, complete with a live band and (3) celebrity judges. Our first place winner was Socrates.

post6-2

The guys had a great time both working behind the camera and telling their stories in front of the camera. It really helped many get out of their shells and feel more comfortable talking in front of people.

Working on the Outside

post7-1

Two weeks ago HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS had a real production that actually was a paying job…  Yes, we got hired for a production job which was terrific because we were actually able to hire and pay many of our Hollywood Impact Studios Alumni who are out of jail and doing well.   We shot all day out at Melody Ranch Western Set in Santa Clarita, California.

HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS was contracted by the Lutheran Hour Ministries in St. Louis Missouri to shoot the “wraparounds” that will help re-launch their class series THIS IS THE LIFE.

post7-2

The shoot went very well… longer than expected but went well none the less.   We were also able to hire TRADE TECH to cater our shoot.  Their culinary students did a terrific job!  Thank you Charlie Roseland and Trade Tech for making this possible.

post7-3

Admittedly we did go way over budget for many reasons that were beyond our control so we will be doing a crowd funding project through Indiegogo to help cover finishing costs, so please keep an eye open for that offering.

post7-4

We really would like to thank Lutheran Hour Ministries for their support and faith in HOLLYWOOD IMPACT STUDIOS.  We’d also like to thank our crew who were incredible!  Also the Veluzat family for their help and support with our shooting location.   It was a glorious day of production.
